Biography

Edward Corbett was born in Leicestershire, England.

Edward Corbett migrated from England to New Zealand.

Edward was born about 1830 at Barwell, Leicestershire.^[1] His father was Thomas Corbett.^[2]

In 1852 he married Isabella Peace, daughter of John Carter.^[2]

As of 1861 he was a wheelwright living at Back Lane, Leire, Leicestershire.^[1]

In 1864 he emigrated to Canterbury, New Zealand with wife Isabella (b. Earl Shilton, Leicestershire) and children Sarah A, John, Edward and Isabella.^[3]

They lived at Ashburton Forks as of 1879.^[4]

In 1892, Edward owned a farm at Hedgehope, Southland, which was managed by his son-in-law William Frisby.^[5]

He died 5 Nov 1907 at Ashburton.^[6]

The name is spent "Corbett" in the 1861 census and passenger log, although some other sources spell it as "Corbitt" .
