As a young adult, George traveled to the edge of Michigan to work for a Mr. Palmer. While there he became acquainted with the Coslet family who lived several miles away across the woods, although they were the nearest neighbors. He fell in love with and married Matilda Coslet in July 11, 1847. Shortly after they were married they settled in Florence Township about 3 miles southwest of Edon on an 80-acre tract of government land. They homesteaded the land and held a government deed signed by John Tyler U.S. President from 1841 you 1845.
Miss Matilda Coslet was born March 14, 18276 and moved to Stark County Ohio with her parents when she was 16 years old. They had five children: Barbara Ann, born April 15, 1848 and died Jan. 20 1852; Maria Born Dec/ 8 1849; Mary Ann, born Feb. 22, 1851; Melissa Jane, born Nov. 25, 1856; Isabelle, born Nov. 16, 1859.
