In a trial about tithes for the abbey of Averbode a "Jan Costers alias Claes" is witness. His testimony was recorded ca. 1502-1506. The combination of Claes and Costers in his name strongly imply he was a son of Nicolaas. He is however not mentioned in sources dating past 1520 (after wich the sourcematerial multiplies), and was probably dead by then without childred. It seem that like his father he was an important person in the village, as only more reputable inhabitants were witnesses in this trial. It also seems likeley he was one of the older children, as witness were mostly of an advanced age (no age was specified in his testimony).
