Other spellings of name are: Gortner and Gotner. Her grandfather was George Cotner of Derry, Columbia, Pennsylvania and has a will from 1858. This researcher believes Cotner to be the true version of the family name. Mainly because wills are solid documents and are more accurate in the spelling of a person's name than census records and marriage records.
