Montague 'Monty' Charles Carrington Cotton was born on 27th March 1917 in Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia. He was the second son of Les Cotton and Muriel Pearce. [1]
On 29th April 1940 at Adelaide, Monty was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for service during the Second World War. He attained the rank of Squadron Leader. [2] On 24th July 1942, then a Flight Lieutenant with No.17 Squadron RAF, Monty was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), 'for distinguished flying in Burma'. [3]
He was presented his DFC by the Governor General at Government House, Sydney on 16th February 1946. His home was then listed as Oberon, New South Wales. [4]
He was placed on the reserve of officers on 1st July 1947. [2]
Monty married Stella Enid unknown in 1947 in South Australia. [5]
