Biography
Alexander travelled to the USA with his parents in 1847/1848. The family lived in Pittston, Pennsylvania and the men of the family worked in the local coal mine. Alexander in 1882 went to Adelaide South Australia to stay with his uncle's family, apparently because he had respiratory problems from working in the coal industry. In a letter between two of his grandsons he is described as having a cough that his cocky imitated. He married his first cousin Elizabeth in 1884 in Adelaide.
