James Courtney was born in Surrey, England.

James was born abt 1906 in Surrey, England. [2]
He married Mary Ann Forest Castine in 1834 at St. George Hanover Square. London, England.[3] The marriage transcription from Freereg indicates James was a bachelor at the time of his marriage on 19 Aug 1834. There are 3-4 children born before that time, so perhaps James was married before. Eliza is with them at the time of the 1841 census, but where are Ellen, Theresa and Bernard?
In 1841, the census states Age: 35. living at St Mary, Surrey, England. Harriet BARRY b1811 from Ireland) and Martha WHITCOMBE b1821 are residing with them. [4]
James was not at home at the time of the 1851 census, working at Ware, Hertfordshire.[5][6]
James died 4 September 1854 of cholera, at residence 13 The Grove, Clapham, Surrey . His occupation was given as wine merchant, aged 61 years. The informant was his son Bernard Courtney,[7]
