Biography

Edward was born about 1759. He was the son of Edward Coupe and Hannah Willey. He passed away about 1826.

from a will in the possession of the Old Mansfield Society and Heritage Link transcribed by the Archivist. "To this sams Court came John Cowpe, Edward Cowpe, William Cowpe and Elizabeth Cowpe, the three nephews, niece and devisees named in the last will and testament of Edward Willey, late of Mansfield Woodhouse, framework knitter, deceased, in their proper persons and here in full court humbly prayed to be admitted tenants to All and singular the messuages, cottages, closes, lands, tenements and hereditaments situate and being in Mansfield Woodhouse or elsewhere within the Manor aforesaid which by the said will of the said Edward Willey deceased bearing date on or about 16th January 1770 were devised unto them the said John Coupe, Edward Coupe, William Coupe and Elizabeth Coupe, their heirs and assignees for ever to whom the Lord by his stewards there granted seisin thereof by akod according to the custom of the Lord of the said Manor for the time being by the rents and services therefore before due and or right accustoms, and they gave to the Lord for a time for such estate and county, two shillings and so they are admitted tenants thereof."
