U.S. Congressman. He was a school teacher and between teaching terms attended, attended East Lynn College, graduated from the law department of Centre College in 1906 and commenced to practice law in Hodgenville, Kentucky in 1910. He was county superintendent of schools of Larue County, (1910-18) county attorney (1918-28), Commonwealth attorney (1929-36) and owner-publisher of a weekly newspaper in Hodgenville. In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Cap R. Carden, reelected to the Seventy-fifth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until his death at age 59 in Hodgenville, Kentucky. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
