Mrs. Maxine Cress Hatley, age 81, of 500 Penny Lane, formerly of Ridenhour Court, passed away at Hospice House on Friday 10/31/2008.Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 3:30 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bill Milholland and Dr. John Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM on Sunday in the church parlor.

Maxine was born July 1, 1927 in Cabarrus County, daughter of the late Robert Morgan and Myrtie Clara Kluttz Cress. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jay Lee Hatley; sisters, Blanche Cress Edsell and Miriam Cress; brothers, Joe Cress, Carl Cress and Harry Cress.

Maxine was a mother and a homemaker, member of Calvary Lutheran Church, former church council member, church treasurer and Sunday school teacher and was a church WELCA member.

Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Fritz and husband, Gary of Concord, Tamara Twiggs of Winston Salem and Leah Callaway and husband, John of Jamestown and a special niece, Peggy Cormier; sons, Mark Lee Hatley and wife, Sharon of Concord and Bob Hatley and wife, Carol of Cary; grandchildren, Jason Twiggs, Jay Callaway, Hudson Callaway, Matthew Hatley, Logan Hatley, Lauren Hatley, Paige Hatley, Tanner Smith and Cameron Smith.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 950 Bradley Street NE, Concord, NC 28025 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

The family gives a special thanks to the staff and her family at Morningside Assisted Living for the love and care given to her over the years.
