(Oct 1942). REPORTED MISSING. SERGT. PILOT. P. CROMBIE. An R.A.A.F. bomber carrying a crew of four sergeants, three of whom were Queenslanders, has been reported missing. The plane set out on a night flying exercise to seaward, but did not return, and is now presumed lost. The crew included Sergeant Peter Kirk Crombie (20), formerly of Longreach and Fitzroy (Victoria). He is a son of Mrs. Crombie (Beryl, Longreach) and the late Mr. James Crombie. Sergeant Crombie was fully trained in Australia and held the bronze medal of the Royal Life Saving Society. Before enlisting in June of last year he was a clerk and was well-known in Central Western Queensland.
