Biography

Private Edward Crone Jr. was a Prisoner of War during World War II.

Edward Reginald Crone was born on October 26, 1923 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, USA, son of Edward Reginald Crone (1890–1966) and Nora Ethel Young (1893–1985)

Edward enlisted in the United States Army on December 14, 1942. ^[1] He was eventually assigned to the 423rd Infantry Regiment of the 106th Infantry Division. His unit was deployed to Europe, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944

Edward was captured by the Germans on December 19, 1944, along author Kurt Vonnegut. They were initially taken to Stalag IV-B. They were then taken to Dresden for a work detail, and housed in Schlachthof 5.

They survived the fire bombing by the Allied forces, however Edward died in a POW hospital out Dresden on April 11, 1944. He was buried there.^[2]

He was reinterred in Mount Hope Cemetery on Friday, April 15th, 1950^[3][4]
