Biography

Rosalind Crosbie was born in 1849 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England to Robert Cochrane Crosbie and Eliza (Austin) Crosbie. Her birth was registered in Liverpool in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Austin.[1]

In 1851 Rosalind Crobie [Crosbie] (age 2) lived at 4 Windermere Terrace in Toxteth Park, Liverpool with her father Robert Cochane (48, General Merchant), mother Eliza (43), and four siblings: Henrietta (10, Scholar), Martha Christina (8, Scholar), Howard Augustus (6), and Clara (5), as well as three servants: Mary Griffits (22, Domestic Servant), Jane Williams (25, Domestic Servant), and Mary Gibson (26, Domestic Servant).[2]

In 1861 Roselia "Curtin" [Crosbie] (age 12, Scholar) lived at 4 Windmere Terrace, Princes Park in Toxteth Park with her mother Eliza (53), and three siblings: Henrietta (20), Howard A (16, Scholar), and Clara (15, Scholar), as well as two servants: Mary Hayes (31) and Helen Cork (27).[3] Her father Robert C Crosbie (58, Merchant) was visiting in the household of Andrew Jamieson at Gloucester Square in Paddington, Middlesex.

Rosalind's parents both passed away in 1870.

In 1871 Rosa Crosbie (age 22, Annuitant) lived at Windermere Terrace in Toxteth Park with her three sisters: Henrietta (28, Annuitant), Martha (27, Annuitant), and Clara (23, Annuitant), as well as two servants: Anna Thompson (28, Cook) and Elizabeth Dickson (21, Housemaid).[4]

Rosalind Crosbie married Edmund Phipps Eyre on 8 Oct 1874 at Saint Luke, Liverpool.[5] The marriage was registered in Liverpool in the last quarter of the year.[6]

Rosalind and Edmund had one son:

  1. Edmund Grendon Eyre AKA Phipps-Eyre (1876-1942)

In 1881 Rosalind Eyre (age 32) lived at 1 Cook St in Liverpool with her husband Edmund P (33, Sub Agent Bank of England), son Edmund G (5), and four servants: Margaret Young (34, Dom Nurse), Sarah J Hewitt (28, Cook), Lena Anderton (27, Dom Waitress), and Kate Dodd (24, Housemaid).[7]

In 1891 Rosalind Eyre (age 38 [~42], Living on Own Means) lived at 22 Southernhay West in St David, Exeter, Devon with her husband Edmund P (43, Living on Own Means) - they were staying at a lodging house.[8]

In 1901 Rosalind Phipps Eyre (age 45 [~52]) lived at The Lindens in Bournemouth, Hampshire with her husband Edmund Phipps (53, Retired Bank of England Agent).[9]

Rosalind's husband passed away in 1903:

  • "EYRE Edmund Phipps of West-point Parkstone Dorsetshire esquire died 16 July 1903 Probate Blandford 26 August to Rosalind Eyre widow and the reverend Edmund Grendon Phipps Eyre clerk Effects £4670 15s. 3d."[10]

In 1911 Rosalind Eyre (age 62, Private Means) was a boarder at 41 Southgate St in Winchester, Hampshire in the household of George Bruce - although she was widowed the details for married women had been filled in and then crossed out, and are still legible: she had been married 37 years, and 1 child had been born in her marriage (still living).[11]

Rosalind P Eyre passed away on 6 Mar 1937, aged 88 years. Her death was registered in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the first quarter of the year.[12]

"EYRE Rosalind of Regent Hotel Cheltenham widow died 6 March 1937 Probate Gloucester 20 May to the reverend Edmund Grendon Phipps Eyre clerk. Effects £2969 7s. 3d."[13]
