Obituary

BISHOP, WINIFRED CROSBY, 96, passed away peacefully June 3rd. She would have been 97 on June 29th. She was the wife of the late William E. Bishop for 68 years and the beloved mother of two daughters, Barbara B. Powell of Winter Park and Carol B. Morris of Ormond Beach. She is also survived by her son-in-law Judge Rom W. Powell, grandsons Scott and Jim Powell, and Bill and Steve Graham; two great grandsons and two great granddaughters. Winnie was the last of the seven daughters, well-known as the 'Crosby girls' and one son of the late Senator W.J. and Rose Crosby, pioneers in the Florida Citrus industry from Citra. She graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1926 where she earned her AB degree in History. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and taught English and History on the high school level. On June 6, 1933, she married Bill Bishop who was also a teacher and the principal of Jr. High School in Ocala. Later, Winnie and Bill went into the grove business full time and continued for many years. After they retired, they traveled extensively in this country and abroad. Winifred was affectionately known as 'Miss Winnie' to her friends in her golden years. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by all. Graveside services for Mrs. Bishop, 96, of Ocala, will be held at 11AM on Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Citra Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Plant officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Citra United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 178, Citra, Fl 32113, where Winifred was the oldest member. Arrangements by Hiers Funeral Home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.[2]
