There are school records for a Joseph Crouch b. 12 Jan 1902, p/g Mrs. Crouch of Test Street, Oamaru. An electoral roll search shows an Eliza Crouch at this address from 1896-1911, recorded as "wife" but no husband; and Mary Wann Crouch in 1919. That would be Eliza Martha (Benneywith) Crouch (abt.1856-1915)

According to the will of Eliza Martha (Benneywith) Crouch (abt.1856-1915), Joe was the illegitimate son of Robert Arthur Crouch (1877-1948)'s wife.
