The Dai Loc Bridge, also known as Marshall Bridge was strategically located just south of the 3d Battalion CP on Hill 37. The bridge, strategically located, was guarded by the Marines of the 3d Battalion, and now, with most of the Battalion on Operation Foster it was the task of Marines from Charley C, 1st Battatlion
In the early morning hours at approximately 02:10 a ground assault was launched from both sides of the river against a squad of Marines from Charley Company who were guarding Marshall Bridge. The enemy silently crept within 30 meters of the Marines defensive position before opening fire with small arms and rocket propelled grenades setting the defenders bunker on the south end ablaze. Small arms fire was immediately returned, and a squad sized reaction force which had been an ambush position north of the bridge immediately responded to assist the embattled men with sounds of explosions and gun fire resonating in the night. Arriving on the scene the reaction force found four men who were killed during the attack.
LCpl Bennett died as a result of multi fragmentation wounds, Cpl Breault, Cpl Crump, PFC Moreno and LCpl Roe's remains could not be identified and they were buried in a group burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA at Section 46 Site 369
