Biography
Margaret "Pagy" Crutchfield was born about 1810 to Stapleton Crutchfield and Jenny Slaydon.
In the 1850 Census, the following were in the household together:

- Jane Sladyen, 8
- James B Sladyen, 7

Slaves
In the Will of Stapleton Crutchfield dated 15 July 1833, he bequeaths "to my daughter Pagy (Margaret), one negro girl named Louisa..."[1]

- From profile of Major Slayden (1789-):
Estate notices in Richmond Enquirer 1833 -1835, show a Peter Slayden, deceased, whose estate is defended against plaintiff Thomas Binford. Among the defendants are: Peggy Crutchfield, James Powers, Nancy Powers, and Nancy Kernan, with Edward W Sims, administering the estate. Eventually over $6000 is ordered to be paid out to plaintiff in 1835. Because of this, Diamond Mills, described as 220 acres on Slate River, with Sawmill and two stones, is sold. [2]
- Jefferson and Margaret are first cousins
Jefferson (Jones) Slayden (abt.1812-1867) and Margaret Webb (Crutchfield) Slayden (abt.1810-aft.1860) are both descendants of Sarah (Groom) Slayden (1754-aft.1835). She was their grandmother.
