Biography

Sidney was born about 1853 in Mariposa township, Victoria County, to William Culbert and Elizabeth Schell. He was the second of six children.^[1]

Sidney traveled to Hesper, Iowa, sometime around 1856-1857 with his parents and two siblings to homestead in newly opened land there. They traveled with other Culbert family, included Sidney's grandmother Elizabeth Williams-Culbert, aunt Mary Ann Culbert-Gates, with her husband Alexander Gates and their five children, and two uncles Albert Culbert and George Culbert. ^{[2] [3]}

Sidney's family returned to Canada sometime before 1861, where they are found in Reach Township. They are back in Mariposa in the 1871 census. ^{[3] [4]}

Sidney married Lydia Gerrow in 1877, in Reach. They settled at Mariposa where they farmed and there are four known children. ^{[5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]}

Sidney died in 1936 and is buried at Little Britain Bible Christian Cemetery with his wife Lydia (d.1942). ^{[14] [15]}
