Biography

MILITARY SERVICE: Corp, US Army - World War II

OBITUARY: KING -- Eudora (Eudy) King, born July 14, 1919 in Texarkana, AR, died peacefully in her sleep on June 11, 2007 in Albuquerque. Eudora was the daughter of the late James D. Culley and Ella L. Glasgow Culley, wife of James L. King, and the mother of Judy King (Moore) Villella. A resident of Albuquerque since 1965, Eudy was one of the first women trained to be control tower operators in the Women's Army Air Corps during WWII. While serving at the pilot training center at Lubbock Army Airfield, she rose to the rank of Corporal. She attended East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A&M at Commerce). After she married Navy Lieutenant, Jim King in San Diego on June 16, 1945, the couple moved to Texarkana, TX. As James pursued his career in the Federal Aviation Administration, they lived in Alexandria, LA, Sulphur Springs, TX, Oklahoma City, El Paso, Fort Worth, and Albuquerque. Eudy was a secretary for the Albuquerque Public Schools for many years, and was also active in numerous civic, fraternal, and charitable organizations, including a stint as president of Christian Women's Fellowship and a Laureate member of Beta Sigma Phi. One of her many interests was contract bridge and she was an accomplished player. She and Jim enjoyed their frequent travels around the world. Beloved by her friends, Eudy was a generous, caring person, who was funny, smart and gregarious. She and Jim were loyal members of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband of 62 years; daughter, Judy and son-in-law, Patrick Villella of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Bobby Wayne King and wife, Edna, of Saltillo, Texas; sister-in-law, Billie Rose Marable of Franklin, Texas. She will be missed by the many friends and family she leaves behind. A Celebration of her life will take place on Friday, June 22, 2007 at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy NE, in Albuquerque at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund or Family Therapy of Albuquerque, both located at 8600 Academy NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
