The son of Alexander and Kathleen Cuppage, Arthur was raised at Silverwood, an estate now on the Orillia Campus of Lakehead University.
The Cuppage family was from Northern Ireland and Arthur's ancestry included soldiers who fought with the Bengal Lancers.
Arthur had a year of previous military experience with the 9th Mississauga Horse, and was a farmer by trade, when he attested into the 8th CMR, on January 14th, 1915, in Toronto. However, a year later Arthur found himself in the 4th CMR, which absorbed the 8th CMR in January 1916.
Tragically, Arthur died on June 2nd, 1916, one in a number of Orillians who fell that week during the opening of the "Battle for Mount Sorrel".
