Elvira was born in Chile. Her paternal grandfather, Tala Canta Ilabe, was the Inca governor, or cacique, of the district which later came to be called Talagante, near Santiago, Chile. Tala Canta Ilaba is said to have been one of the sons of Tupac Yupanki, ruler of the Inca empire with its capital at Cuzco, Peru. [1]
The website geni.com gives Elvira´s last name as Curiqueo. It gives her father as Tala Canta Ilabe and her mother as Ilaba / Lanka Curiqueo de Talagante, the daughter of a cacique. [2] Elvira's mother was apparently of Mapuche origin.
Elvira converted to Christianity and became the lover and partner of the conquistador Bartolomé Flores, and the mother of his daughter Agueda Flores. [1] Elvira may be the name she received as a Christian; in that case, her original first name is unknown.
She became the "cacica" Elvira de Talagante.
