Biography

Eugene Rex Currey was born in Kincheloe, West Virginia on August 14, 1917 to Hayward Currey and Elva Coffindaffer. He was the youngest of four children born to the couple.

Eugene was raised on his paternal grandfather's farm in Kincheloe, West Virginia. Eventually, the farm was passed down to Eugene's father. Eugene worked the farm alongside his father and brothers.

Sometime around 1939, Eugene married Ernestine Smith. Their first daughter was born in 1939. The couple lived with her parents in Clarksburg, West Virginia before moving into their own home. His wife's sister and brother-in-law also lived with the family. Eugene worked as a floor boy in the local glass factory.

A second child was born to the couple in December 1942 but he died shortly after his birth.On March 14, 1945 in Huntington County, West Virginia, Eugene enlisted in the United States Army to serve during WWII. After his service, he returned to his parents' farm in Kincheloe, West Virginia to help his mother run the farm. In 1950 census, he noted that he was divorced but the official divorce decree wasn't issued until July 29, 1980, when Ernestine was granted a divorce in Los Angeles, California. Ernestine had already married and divorced sometime between 1945 and 1950.

Eugene died in Lewis County, West Virginia in December 1981. He was 64 years old. He is buried in Good Hope Masonic Cemetery in Good Hope, West Virginia.
