Biography

Elizabeth (FamilySearch Person: G3D4-R11) was born in 1922, the daughter of Frank Henry Cushwa (1901–1927 LYDN-PZ3) and Grace Elizabeth Hale (1900–1969 LYDN-8KT).

She worked for | "Hot Shoppes Inc" as Secretary & Assistant Vice President in the late 1950's and spoke regularly about her enthusiasm and investments during family Christmas Parties in the 1960's. She may have met Kathleen E Lyons at one of the first shoppes in Falls Church VA where Kathleen owned a home, although family legend says she was a patient of Nurse Lyons. Hot Shoppes was the early startup for Marriott Corp. 1967.

On 14 Oct 1960 she purchased a home at 4805 Montgomery Ave Bethesda MD from a Callahan^[1]. Kathleen sold her house in Falls Church and moved in with Betsy. The house served as a gathering place at Christmas for the families of Kathleen's Children throughout the 1960's.

About 1963 She and Kathleen with the proceeds from Kathleen's home built two cottages on Dodd Ave in Dewey Beach DE where they spent many vacations and later rented to friends and extended family.

On 5 May 1971 after they had both retired, Betsy sold her residence to John C McGrath^[2] and used the proceeds to build another larger residence adjacent to the cottages.

Unfortunately she only enjoyed her new residence with Kathleen a few short years when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away in 1975. She is buried at Rosedale Cemetery Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia, USA Plot Sec A, Plot 2, Space 4^[3]

Betsy, unmarried and having no children, had an agreement with Kathleen that whoever passed first the estate would pass to the other.
