Biography

Spencer Harry Daniel was born in Buninyong, Victoria, Australia in 1860, probably soon after his parents moved there from Melbourne. He was the fifth child of James Daniel and Harriet Burge Daniel and the third born in Australia.

As with several of his siblings, we have no information about the exact data of his birth or about the date and place of his baptism (if he ever was baptized).

Spencer has to have grown up in Buninyong until his father's demise in 1868. He would then have returned to Melbourne with his mother and other siblings in about the mid 1870s.

It appears that Spencer was living at his mother's house in Carlton at the time of the Australian electoral rolls for 1903 and 1909. He can also be identified as living at his brother George's home at Mordialloc between 1914, 1924, and 1931. In each case he lists his occupation as a "Draper" and so it is probably safe to assume that he worked for the Daniel family drapery business in Melbourne.

Spencer never married. He died on January 5, 1932, at "Alpha", 48 Rennison Street, Mordialloc, Victoria, Australia, and was buried on January 7, 1932, at Melbourne General Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria.
