Henry Bennett Darnall (c1815-c1875) was a prosperous Maryland planter and slaveowner whose property and wealth was much diminished when his slaves were freed after the end of the American Civil War. He married married Sarah Ann Blandford with whom he had four children.
Henry Bennett Darnall was born about 1815 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland [1] (or 1796, says ancestry.com).
Henry Bennett Darnall was the son of Richard Darnall, born about 1740 in Portland Manor, Anne Arundel , MD. [but note that this is uncertain. Ancestry.com says his father was Philip Darnall, and his mother was Lucinda Marshall. Also Richard was born in 1740 and this would make him aged 75 at the birth of his son Henry Bennet, which seems unlikely.]
On 19 June 1838 in Prince Georges, Maryland, Henry Bennett Darnall married Sarah Ann Blandford, born around 1809. [1]
Henry Bennett Darnall and Sarah Blandford had four children, three daughters and a son:
The 1860 census shows Blandford in Anne ArundelCounty, MD with property worth $10,500 and "30 slaves"[2]
The 1870 census shows him in Anne Arundel, Maryland, with property worth $5800, and no slaves, as these would have been freed in 1865. At this time he was living with Amelia, aged 30, Virginia, aged 27, and Philip, aged 25. [3]
Henry Bennett Darnall died sometime after 1870. [Ancestry.com says he died between 1870–1880 in Anne Arundel, Maryland, presumably some time before the 1880 census]
