William Henry Davey was born in Cornsay Colliery, Durham, in 1873 and was the son of Edward Davey and Mary Margaret Wilson.[1]
On the 1881 census, William, aged 7 years, is living in Westerton with his mother and siblings: Margaret (12 years) and George (5 years). His father is not on the record but his widowed mother is living with them.[2]
On the 1891 census, William, a coal miner, is living with his widowed mother on Wharton St, Coundon. William's surname is listed as Murray, however his mother has been married twice and Murray was her second husband's surname. William is also living with his brothers and stepbrothers: George (15 years), Thomas (13 years), Samuel (9 years), Robert (7 years) and Emmanuel (5 years).[3]
William married Margaret Jane Clark in Eldon on 21 September 1896 and they had one son before Margaret died in 1901.[4]
On the 1911 census, William, a coal miner, and Sarah are living at 2 Margaret Terrace, South Church, Durham, with their children: William (14 years), John (6 years), Walter (4 years), Sydney (2 years) and Mathew (1 month).[7]
On the 1921 census, William, a coal miner, and Sarah are living at 2 Margaret Terrace, South Church, Durham, with their children: John (16 years), Walter (14 years), Sydney (12 years), Mathew (10 years), Robert (7 years) and Elsie (5 years).[8]
William Henry Davey died, aged 51 years, in 1924.[9]
