OBITUARY - MR THOMAS DAVIDSON
Mr Thomas Davidson, who died at his home in Robin road, Semaphore, last week, had resided in the district for 23 years.
Born at Queenstown on March 6 1858, he was a son of Captain William Davidson whose ship, the Emily Smith, was wrecked off the coast of Java many years ago, all hands with one exception being lost, including Captain Davidson's wife and three young children. The only survivor was the ship's cook, who swam to the shore.
At the time Mr Davidson was only about 14 years old. Mr Davidson was educated at Whinham College, and as a young man was employed by Messrs W. Morgan & Co., wholesale grocers, as a commercial traveller, and in this capacity he frequently rode over the Western Australian goldfields on a bicycle.
Some years later he was appointed manager at Broken Hill for Messrs D. & J. Fowler, and he was with Messrs Wills & Co Limited for sixteen years. Latterly he had been engaged as a deck hand at Port Adelaide.
He has left a widow, six sons, and a daughter. Miss Ethel Davidson, matron at Keswick Hospital, is a sister. Mrs Davidson was formerly Miss Ethel May Malcolm, a daughter of the late Mr William Malcolm, of Gawler. [5]
