Biography
Lydia Davis was born in 1862. Her birth was registered in Bedminster and her mother's maiden name was Mills. [1]
In 1871 Lydia was one of 5 children living in Bristol with parents Thomas and Anna. Thomas was a Cordwainer. [2]
In 1879 Lydia married Joshua Almond in Bristol. [3]
In 1891 Joshua and Lydia were living in Bedminster with 3 children, Joshua (4), Florence (2), Anna (3 months). Joshua was a General Labourer (born in London). [4]
The couple split up - or perhaps Joshua was ill (Joshua cannot be found in 1901 but in 1911 he is in the Workhouse and is a 'former dock labourer'). Lydia gets together with Henry Pellowe and claims to be Lydia Pellowe in census returns.
In 1911 Henry and Lydia (surnames both registered as Pellowe) claimed to have been married for 16 years (ie since 1895). 2 of Lydia's daughters from her first marriage also lived there. Henry was a Cabinet Maker. [5]
Henry Pellowe and widow Lydia Almond married in Bristol in 1913. [6] However Joshua didn't pass away until 1914.
Lydia died aged 61 in 1924. [7]
Research Note
Birth records of her daughters listed in the 1911 census living with Lydia and Henry show Lydia's maiden name was Davis. [8] [9]
