John was born in 1835. He passed away in 1898.
According to his obituary in the family records, John Davis was a pioneer of Black Brook, WI when he purchased a homestead in 1869.
He was enlisted in Company C, 20th regiment Indiana volunteer infantry during the Civil War. He was involved in many battle including the last battle of Fredericksburg. He developed rheumatism in the retreat across the Potomac and remained in the hospital until his discharge in 1863.
He died in his home at the age of 63 due to rheumatism of the heart.
He was survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.
