Obituary [6]
One of the victims claimed by the prevailing epidemic, Mr. Walter Robert Davison, foreman printer of the Observer, died at his residence, 7, Dean Street, Arch Hill, on Sunday morning. He was the eldest living son of the late Mr. Pearson James Davison, formerly in business at the foot of Gray Street, and Mrs. Frances Davison, of Church Street, Ponsonby, both of whom were old Thames residents. The late Mr. Walter Davison was an ardent worker in Church matters at Arch Hill, and afterwards at the Newton Congregational Church. He was also an advocate of healthy outdoor life, and was a member of the Newton Football Club, a keen yachtsman, and good all-round sport. He was a staunch supporter of the Rugby game. Lately he had edited the "Outdoor Sports" columns of the Observer. "Wally" Davison, as he was best known, died at the early age of 34 years, and leaves a widow and three children to mourn their loss. He also leaves behind many admirers of his unselfish personal qualities, and character; in fact, it was his devotion to his children which assisted towards his untimely end, for he got up from a sick bed to attend to them when they, too, had been stricken down by the "flu." His memory will remain green in the minds of his fellow-members of the staff.
He is buried in the Purewa Cemetery, Auckland, Block D Row 19 Plot 37. [7]
On 7 June 1922 widow Sarah Margaret Davison and Sydney Thomas Davison (Walter's brother) were married. [8]
On 9 November 1945 Sarah Margaret Davison passed away, aged 61. [9]
