Emily Valentina Day was born in 1848 in England. She was the daughter of Robert Day and Emily Page.
In the 1861 census at Hampreston, Dorsetshire, England, Emily is shown with her family as: Robert 39, Emiley 35, Harriet 15, Emiley 13, William 7, Mary 4, Fredrick 2, Rose Selina 0 [1].
Between 1861 and 1880 Emily immigrates to New Zealand. Her sister Harriet also immigrates on the Lady Jocelyn in 1884, however Emily and Richard Lydford have a son in New Zealand in 1880 so she must arrive earlier than 1880. Information shows she married Richard in 26 May 1879 in Christchurch, Hampshire.
Five days after their wedding they immigrated to New Zealand with Richard's older sister, Mary Lydford (1846 - 1913), who was a governess. (Richard had a twin brother, Samuel Lydford (29 Aug 1849 - ?) who had previously immigrated to Napier. It's possible that Samuel sponsored his siblings out to New Zealand. The Lydfords departed from Plymouth on the ship Rakaia on 31 May 1879.
She passed away in 1930 aged 82 years [2].
