Biography

Friedrich was born in West Prussia on March 15, 1842 and married his wife Ernestine on November 13, 1867. Baptism records from Evangelische Kirche Groß Albrechtau in Finckenstein, Rosenberg, Westpreußen, Preußen, Deutschland, list him as father to an un-named female child born on 9 Sep 1868 and Wilhelmine baptized on 15 Sep 1870. Friedrich came to America aboard the ship Messenger, which arrived in New York on 10 July, 1872. There were 328 passengers, 3 of whom died at sea due to small pox. Prior to the opening of Ellis Island in 1892, immigrants would have entered New York at Castle Garden, located at the southern tip of Manhattan. Friedrich traveled with his pregnant wife and their daughter, Wilhelmine, who was not quite 2 years old at the time. The passenger list did not show the daughter that would have been born in 1868. It is unknown how long the travel from New York to Sheboygan, Wisconsin took, however, Ernestine gave birth to their son, August, on August 2 (less than a month later) in Sheboygan. Also aboard the ship Messenger were Wilhelm DeKarske, his wife Louise, and Carl DeKarske.

Based on an article in the Sheboygan press describing his death, Fritz or Fred may have been his preferred name.
