Petronila was born about 1625 to Diego de Vera and Maria de Abendaño.[1] Not long after she was born, her father confessed that he already had a wife in the Canary Islands. He was forced to return to her and Petronila's parents' marriage was annulled.[1]
Petronila was married to Pedro Romero and they had about 8 to 10 children.[2] In 1646 her stepfather, Antonio de Salas, was accused of having an affair with her and was said to "be jealous of her husband, Pedro Romero."[2] In 1680, Petronila was living in Pojoaque along with all her children, grown and young. All of them were murdered by the Indians during the Pueblo Revolt that year.[3]
