Biography
Maike de Weijs, the daughter of Cornelis de Weijs, was born in the Province of Gelderland, Netherlands. 1 She was later married in the Netherlands to a man named Aart van Herwijnen. 1 Aart van Herwijnen was born at, or near, the village of Herwijnen in the Province of Gelderland, the Netherlands. His name, along with that of his wife, Maike, and daughter, Robbeke, was first found in the christening records of the Herwijnen Dutch Reformed Church under the date of 18 August 1678. 1 This christening record was the earliest dated document to be uncovered which specifically identified one of our ancestors with the surname "van Herwijnen." 1 In this record, Aart Aries van Herwijnen and Maike Cornelis, are shown as the parents of Robbeke. 1 A number of later records have been found which indicate that Aart's wife was actually Maike De Weijs, the daughter of Cornelis De Weijs. 1
