Biography

Frances Fitzpatrick Gordon Deacon was born in on 19 March 1886 in 76 Henry Street, Gosforth, Northumberland. Her mother died when she was 13 years old, but even before that, in 1891, the Scottish census shows her living with her aunt Fanny (née Deacon) and her uncle James Watson who were childless. Likewise in 1901 where the couple stated that Fanny (noted as Fanny D Watson) was their daughter. So maybe they had adopted her, even if 'unofficially'. By 1911, Fanny was still living with her aunt and uncle in 9 McLaren Road, Edinburgh, and it was only on 6 September 1921 that she married Edward David Morton in Craigmillar United Free Church, Edinburgh. By then she was 35 years old. Her husband managed a successful ironmonger's and furnishing partnership in Stirling. The couple had two children. Fanny died on 4 July 1956 in Stirling.
