Biography

"in 1832 ... witnesses (Rev. Michael Keogh, Abbeyleix and Rev J Delaney PP, Ballinakill ) cite eviction as a major cause of ‘ribbonism’. Delaney testifies that the evictions caused a mini-famine. These two witnesses insist that the crimes (‘outrages’) are not political, but result from the practice of clearing people off the land to make way for grazing."[1]
