Biography
Digby was born about 1739 at Portsmouth, Hampshire. He was baptised 16 Nov 1739 in Hampshire, son of Cotton Dent and his wife Catherine. [1]
5 Apr 1762 - Bachelor Digby Dent married Spinster Elizabeth Greentree at St James Anglican Church on Saint Helena.
Rear-Admiral Sir Digby Dent (c. 1739-1817) was the son of Captain Cotton Dent R.N. & his wife Catherine née Bowerbank
The London Gazette, Issue 11875, May 16 to May 19, 1778, Page 1 :- The King has been pleased to confer the Honour of Knighthood on Digby Dent, Esquire, Captain in his Majesty’s Navy.
July 7. Sir Digby Dent, Knt. S.A. Received the honour of knighthood when his Majesty visited Portsmouth in 1778, being at that time captain of the ‘Princess Amelia’.
