Biography

GENEALOGY NOTE: Do Not confuse with WikiTree profile William Dickinson who was born ca. 1585 in Buckinghamshire, England; son of Thomas Dickinson of Eton...

Unfortunately, Record of the Lambert-Dickinson family : with the various branches in England..., the 1901 Dickinson family genealogy by Professor Wharton Dickinson has combined these 2 different men's lives in its "Appendix B" on pp. 115-118 of original; pp. 213-217 of the Archive.org webpage.. Many succeeding genealogies, including this profile originally, followed its erroneous conclusions. Do not merge these 2 profiles without primary source evidence of 1) parents and 2) birth data.

Virtually nothing about the William Dickinson who was born in 1603 to James & Elizabeth (Haslelock) Dickinson, is known, due to this 1901 research error.

William Dickinson was born in 1603 in England. He was the 5th and youngest son of James Dickinson and his wife, Elizabeth Haslelock, eldest daughter and co-heiress of Charles Haslelock, Esquire, Barrister, the 2nd son of Sir Arthur Haslelock, knight, of St. Alban's, Hertfordshire, England. William was the[1]

"Ancestor of the Dickinsons of Leeds, Jamaica, and King Weston House, Somersetshire." [Uncertain as to who his wife & children were - See above].

At present, nothing more is documented about this William Dickinson. He did not marry Mary Culpepper; he was not the father of Dr. Edmund Dickinson, M.D. etc. Nor was he the Rector of Appleton or Besselsleigh, Oxfordshire, England, so far as is known.

A family genealogy states that he was born in 1603 in Ely, Cambridge, England. He married (Unknown) in Cambridge in 1629 and had a son Francis Dickinson, b: 1630, in Cambridge, England. William Dickinson passed away in 1679 in England. [2]

Dickinson-6235 and Dickinson-2193 do not represent the same person because: They are different people, with different birthdates and fathers.

I suspect the William Dickinson (son of James - Dikinson-2193) has incorrectly had a death date of 1643 Appleton attributed to him. Thank you.

The Dickinson Manuscripts and Athenae Oxonienses, pg 389 identify William's father as Thomas Dickinson, a cook at Eton College.
