According to his death record, John K. Dickinson was born at Rockingham, Vermont, the son of Silas Dickinson and Lucy (Kelsey) Dickinson, and he was 45 years and 10 months old when he died in April 1863.[1]
Marriage
John K. Dickinson married Frances E. Weaver. No record of the marriage has been found, but the death record of Frances E. (Weaver) Dickinson names her as the widow of John K. Dickinson.[2]
Children
John K. Dickinson and Frances (Weaver) Dickinson were the parents of five known children, the first born in Vermont, the others at Alstead, New Hampshire: The first three children are shown with their parents in the 1850 Census,[3] the last four with them in the 1860 Census.[4] (See the children's profiles for birth dates and and sources.)
The John and Frances Dickinson lived on what was then known as Grove Street (today River Street) in the Paper Mill Village section of the town of Alstead, New Hampshire, and John K. Dickinson operated a drug store there on Main Street.[5] In 1850, John K. Dickinson, merchant, 32, and Frances E. Dickinson, 29, were living at Alstead with three children: Julia E., 9; George S. W. 5; and Louella A. 9 months. The household included four other residents, including two who were probably employees of John Dickinson: Andrew J. Weaver, 22, clerk, Jackson Marvin, 22, clerk. Also in the household were Franklin J. Weaver, 23, tinman, and Hannah F. Wiley, 18, occupation not given. (See the Research Note on Frances' profile for a discussion of the relationships of these people to the family.) The family had apparently moved to Alstead sometime between the birth of Julia, whose birthplace is shown as Vermont, and George, who was born in New Hampshire.[3]
In 1860. John K. Dickinson, merchant, 42, and Frances E. Dickinson, 39, were living at Alstead with four children, George S. Dickinson, 16; Louella Dickinson, 11; John W. Dickinson, 7; and Clarence Dickinson, 9 months.[4]
