Jane Dickinson was born on November 21, 1776, in Augusta County, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Dickinson and Martha Usher.
At the age of 23, Jane married Charles Cameron Lewis on November 23, 1799, in Bath County, Virginia, when he was 25.[1] They had two sons - John Dickinson and Charles Cameron Jr.[2]
Charles died in September 1803. Jane married James Wilson in 1807 in Mason County, Virginia.[3] They had one daughter - Ann Jane.
According to various histories, Jane and James moved in 1810 to the Kanawha valley to an area called The Salines, six miles above Charleston. Around 1814, they made a swap of their property with another longtime resident for the old Fort Lee building in Charleston, and moved there. James made an attempt to drill for salt brine on his new property, but struck natural gas with an explosive result, leading to an end to the drilling.[4][5]
Jane died about 1835. She was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Charleston, Kanawha, West Virginia.[6]
