Biography

Chuck was born in 1923. He passed away in 2012.

Major League Baseball Player. For nine seasons (1947 to 1952 and 1954 to 1956), he played at the outfielder and third-base positions with the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and Baltimore Orioles. Born Charles Edward Allen Diering, he attended Beaumont High School in St. Louis, prior to signing as an amateur free agent by the Cardinals in 1941. His Minor League experience yielded to his service with the United States Army during World War II and on April 15th, 1947, he marked his Major League debut; he appeared in 105 games that year with the Cardinals. After spending the 1953 season in the minors with the Giants' AAA squad, he was dealt to Baltimore and produced a career-high 108 hits in 128 games in 1954. He earned the distinction as being the first team MVP of the Orioles for his efforts. In 752 regular season games, he compiled 411 hits with a .249 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, Diering operated an automobile dealership in Missouri. He died of injuries sustained from a fall in his home.
