Biography
William was born about 1840 in Nether Poppleton, Yorkshire, England, where he lived with his parents, Thomas Ditchburn and his wife Bessy.[1][2]
William married Ann Hopwood in 1860.[3] In 1861 the couple were visiting Ann's parents in Full Sutton, Yorkshire, along with their baby daughter, Elizabeth.[4] The Ditchburns lived in Askham Bryan, Yorkshire, in 1871. William worked as an agricultural labourer.[5] By 1881 they had moved to Haxby, Yorkshire.[6][7]
Ann was visiting her nephew, James Hopwood, in Full Sutton in 1901,[8] when William was at home in Haxby with two of their daughters and a servant.[9] The couple remained in Haxby in 1911, by which time William was a "retired farmer."[10]
Ann died in 1916 at the age of 79.[11] William died in 1928 at the age of 88.[12]
