Joseph Ditchfield was born in Lymm, Cheshire, England.

When Joseph Ditchfield was born in 1850 in Lymm, Cheshire, he was the eldest of 3 children born to Nathan Ditchfield and Mary Barlow. He was christened on the 21st March 1850 at St Mary's Church, Lymm, Cheshire.[1]

The 1851 census shows him living in Lymm with his parents. His father was a farm labourer.[2]

By the time of the 1861 census he had one brother and one sister, his father was a railway porter and the family were living at Thelwall[3]

Joseph died on 19 December 1869 in Thelwall, Cheshire, at the age of 19. He was buried in All Saints Churchyard, Thelwall on the 23rd December and at later dates both his parents were buried in the same grave.[4]
