Rev. R. J. DUGAN
The New Pastor at Jefferson Street Baptist Church
Rev. Robert J. Dogan, who recently accepted the call to the pastorate of the Jefferson-Street Baptist church of this city, was born and raised in Botetourt county, where he received his early education. He then attended Roanoke Collage, at Salem, from 1884 to 1887, after which he taught school for some years in Botetourt. In the year of 1891 he was married to Miss Nora May Kessler, of Springwood, Va. He was ordained to the ministry by the Springwood Baptist church, July 15th, 1897 and at once became the pastor of that church. After serving that church until the fall of 1899, he took the English course at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, of Louisville, Ky. His work in his present field has been very successful. His present field, embracing Lithia, Glenwood, Walnut Grove, and Jenning's Creek churches, all of which part with him with many regrets.
The Rev. Mr. Dogan is a very magnetic speaker, and it is predicted for the church a bright future under his leadership.
He will assume active charge of the church on the second Sunday in June, at which time he will move to our city with his family.
Mr. and Mrs. Dogan have three small daughters.
