Biography

Thomas Doherty served in Company G, 18th Regiment, US Infantry in the Indian Wars, filed for pension on 30 Jan 1909, awarded pension certificate # 7350. ^[1]

Thomas Doherty 25 yrs tailor, bachelor, residing William st, son of William Doherty, married on 25 Nov 1870 at Longroner RCC, to Ellen McCormick, 23 yrs, spinster, shirtmaker, residing Bennet St, daughter of Thomas McCormick. ^[2]

Thomas and Ellen had ten children in all, 5 of which were still living in 1911 according to the census. Eight of them have been identified:

• Mary Doherty was born on 10 August 1871 in County Londonderry, Ireland.^[3]
• Thomas Doherty was born on 13 Apr 1873 in County Londonderry, Ireland.^[4] Thomas Doherty was baptised in the City of Derry, Northern Ireland.^[5] He must have died before 1882 when his brother Thomas was born.
• George Doherty was born on 13 Apr 1873 in County Londonderry, Ireland.^[6] George Doherty was baptised in the city of Derry, Northern Ireland.^[7]
• Sarah Doherty was born on 13 August 1874 in County Londonderry, Ireland.^[8] Sarah Doherty was baptised in the City of Derry, Northern Ireland.^[9]
• Elizabeth Doherty was born on 24 December 1878 in Derry, County Londonderry, Ireland.^[10]
• Thomas Doherty, age 19 in 1901 census, b. abt 1882 in Londonderry
• Ellen Doherty, age 17 in 1901 census, b. abt 1884 in Londonderry
• James Doherty, age 14 in 1901 census, b. abt 1887 in Londonderry

Thomas Doherty 50 yrs tailor, wife Ellen 51 yrs, Elizabeth 22 yrs Laundress, Thomas 19 yrs Iron moulder, Ellen 17 yrs Clerk, James 14 yrs Telegraph messenger, resided in 1901 in house 23 in Fulton Place (No. 2 Urban, South Ward, Londonderry). ^[11]

Thomas Doherty 69 yrs tailor, wife Ellen 64 yrs, resided in 1911 in house 6 in Tirconnell Street (Londonderry Urban (4), Londonderry). ^[12]

Thomas Doherty died 7 Aug 1920 at Tirconnell Street, Londonderry, County Londonderry, married, tailor, aged 78 yrs, reported by daughter Lizzie McCaul, Omagh.^[13]

Thomas DOHERTY died Aug 1920 Tyrconnell St, Londonderry, Private, Co C, 18th US Infantry, US pension # 7350 issued 14 Feb 1918 for service in Indian wars date 1920-08-20. ^[14]
