Fanny Done was born on 20th March 1870[1] at Copenhagen Street, Worcester, Worcestershire, England, the illegitimate daughter of James Williams and Ellen Done. [2] Her birth was registered in the name of Fanny Williams, although her parents were never legally married.
On the 1871 census, Fanny lived with her parents, as Fanny Williams, at Southan's Buildings, St Andrew's, Worcester.[3]
She was baptised at St Andrew's Church, Worcester on 6th April 1873.[4] The entry states that Fanny was the daughter of James Williams, (abode) Birmingham, labourer and Ellen Done, Copenhagen Street.
In 1881, Fanny was living with her mother, stepfather and some of her half-siblings, as Fanny Jenkins, at Quay Street Court, Worcester,[5] using her stepfather's surname.
The 1891 census shows Fanny Done recorded as a "boarder" in the household of John & Ellen Jenkins, her mother and stepfather, at Birdport, Worcester, where Fanny was employed as a Carpet Spinner.[6]
On 15th February 1892,[7] as Fanny Done, she married Alfred Rubery at St Andrew's Church, Worcester. Alfred was a 19 year old bachelor, living at Britannia Place, and his occupation was tailor. His father was Luke Rubery, tailor. Fanny was a 21 year old spinster, living at Bridport. Her father was recorded as James Williams, labourer. (dead) Additionally, it records "Ellen Done (mother)" beneath the father's name. Witnesses to the marriage were William Rubery and Annie Rubery.[8]
The 1901 census shows Alfred, Fanny and their children, living at Sherborn Place, Worcester.[9]
