UPD 11 JAN 2013 09:46:31 GMT+10 Title: Trove Text: Northern Star Friday 3 February 1939 p 12 Article CONT CONT Mr. Henry John Palmer (86), one of the oldest Identities of the Northern Rivers, died in the Lismore Base Hospital last night. Mr. Palmer was born at sea. His parents at the time were travelling to Australia in a sailing ship and immediately on their arrival they came to the Casino district where Mr. Palmer senr., secured employment 011 Tomki Station. Deceased had spent all his life time on the Richmond River, principally in the Casino district. As a young man he was a boundary rider on Yeager's Station at . Coraki and made trips to Sydney in the sailing ships in charge of cattle. For aboutten years he was employed by the North Coast Steam Navigation Co. on the wharf at Irvington on the Casino arm of the Richmond River. The cargo was transferred from the ships at Coraki on to lighters and unloaded from them at Irvington, from where it was transported by carriers to Casino and Kyogle. Deceased was married at Lismore almost 60 years ago to Miss Mary McDermott, who survives him. In addition to his widow, two sons and seven daughters survive. The sons are Henry (Dorrigo), and Edmund (Lismore), and the daughters are Mesdames A. Harvey (Tamworth), M.Ellem (Stoker's Siding), H. E. Rose:(McLean's Ridges), J. Patterson (Lismore) , H. Blaney (Wongavale), J.Cheadle (Ballina), and Miss Thelma Palmer (Cawongla). The funeral will leave Will Riley and Son's funeral parlour to-day at 11 a.m. for the Church of.
