Biography
James was born in 1765 at Craigroy and baptised on 1 December of that year. [Note this date should probably read 1 September as the baptismal records appear to be out of order, and the next record in the list is dated 8 September.] He is the son of Robert Douglas and Elizabeth Dean. witnesses to the baptism were Mr James Hay and James Bremnar.
