Carl was born at Holme, Yorkshire about 1890. His parents were Thomas Drayton and Ida Carr. ^[1][2][3]

At the time of the 1901 England and Wales Census, he was 11 years old and living with his parents at Holme upon Spalding Moor, Yorkshire East Riding, England, United Kingdom. ^[5]

At the time of the 1911 England and Wales Census, he was 21, a Salesman in the Drapery and Furnishing business and living at Peckham, London, England, United Kingdom. ^[6]

He emigrated to Australia between 1911 and 1914.

He married Miriam Jacobs at the Methodist Church in Lewisham NSW on 14 Apr 1914. ^[7]

They had 2 children.
