Biography

Joseph was the second of eleven known children born to Thomas and Tamsen Drew of Oyster River (now Durham), New Hampshire. He was married about 1737 to Elizabeth, the daughter of Rev. Hugh Adams and Susanna Winborn. Both of his parents were taken captive during the Oyster River Massacre of 1694, but both returned home, and he was the first known child born to them following their reunion. He lived his entire life on or near the farm where he was raised.
